About the event

Oklahoma Composer's Orchestra returns with an exciting and inspiring pair of events!

January 14 - The Unicorn's Birthday

Join our orchestra as we workshop a brand new-work by Grammy-nominated composer Bob Singleton! This free event is a perfect window into the process of creating new music. Audience members will experience the Oklahoma Composer’s Orchestra reading through this un-premiered work and collaborating with the composer on adjustments. Mr. Singleton will present a question and answer session with the audience, after which the orchestra will run the work in its entirety!

January 15 - OkCO Rebooted!

It has been three long years since we've taken the stage, and this concert is our glorious return! We are bringing four works from across our ensemble's lifetime - from 2016 on - as well as one new world premiere...with a twist!

The concert will open with Daniel Nelson's "Force of a Rainbow", a beautiful overture we present at almost every concert. Following that is Andrea Reinkemeyer's "Lured by the Horizon", first performed by our ensemble in 2016. Charlotte Dumesnil's "Evangeline Overture" (premiered by OkCO in 2018) fuses Cajun sounds with Oklahoma textures.

Following these three stellar works, the OkCO will embark upon a new experience for performers and audiences alike - performing a live video game soundtrack while the video game is played live! Jamie Wind Whitmarsh's score for the upcoming game "Elowen's Light" takes new life in this world premiere version for full orchestra.

Rounding out the program is a work OkCO performed in May 2019, "Zodiac Animalia" by Jessica Wells. As with the 2019 performance, we will project images of local artists' interpertations of each Zodiac animal included.

All concerts are free, family-friendly, and under an hour. Before the January 15th concert, we will have a Behind-the-Scenes presentation at 2:45 pm, presenting material from the concert in advance and giving audience members a reference point when hearing the works in their entirety.

Hope to see you there!
